Peter's Tonic

I made a new friend recently. We happened to be sitting next to each other at a local coffee shop and he asked if I was writing a book. Delighted, we engaged in what would become a lovely conversation about travel, photography, and of course, health.

Peter has a sharp and inquisitive mind. His attention to detail was refreshing and when we ran into each other a few weeks later at a gallery opening, I knew I had found a kindred spirit in so many ways. Peter is fit and healthy. Clearly, he takes very good care of himself and when I dared ask how old he was, his perfect answer was "isn't 70 the new 50?"

One topic we first discussed was his tried and true morning tonic. I've had a morning tonic for years too but this one may just become my new go-to.

Peter's Tonic

  • 32oz bottle of Harmless Harvest Coconut Water (or your preferred brand)

  • 2 Tbsp of grated fresh turmeric

  • 1 Tbsp of grated fresh ginger

  • Juice of one lemon or orange

  • 1 Tbsp of maple syrup (optional)

  • 8oz frozen dark cherries

  • 8oz frozen blueberries

  • Pinch of black pepper/cayenne, or cinnamon.

Fill a blender with all ingredients and blend until fully combined. Ration off into 7 equal sized (approx 5oz) servings in sealable jars and drink each morning for the next week.

Eat Good. Feel Good.
