May Day

Happy May!!! When I hear "May Day" - I actually think of stress signals and I'm guessing a lot of you start feeling stress around this time of year - schools nearly out, summer holidays, the beach, bathing suits, camps, travel. They all sound kind of great and dreamy but this time of year can be incredibly stressful and stress wreaks havoc on the body, mind, soul, relationships, work... everything!!

When our stress levels go up, our body has to work overtime to perform basic functions. This can result in disturbed sleep, brain fog, moodiness, extra weight gain, hormonal shifts, lethargy and a host of other un-fun characteristics.

So on this here Monday, May 1st I challenge you, encourage you, perhaps inspire you to do something for yourself and your stress levels starting today for the whole month of May. Each day take a few minutes or however long you can take (even 3 minutes is worth it!!) and do something to add more peace and calm into your life. Schedule it. Put it on the calendar. Make yourself a priority!!

Do yourself a favor (and everyone around you) by demanding time for yourself today and everyday. Here are a few of my favorite me-time activities:


5 minutes of deep, diaphragmatic breathing.
10 minutes of meditation
4 pages of a book - at noon. 
Start a gratitude journal.
3 minutes staring into the ocean. 
15 minutes of stretching. 
30 minutes of restorative yoga.
A 2 song solo dance party.
Lying on the floor, just being. 
Lunch outside.
A mid-day walk in the park. 
An early morning hike.
A soak in a jacuzzi.
A massage. 
10 minute sauna. 
Get into bed before your kids!!!

What's your favorite self-care practice? I don't know about you, but when I'm happy, calm, rested and relaxed I'm a way better mother, wife and friend. Please, put your own oxygen mask on before helping others. It's not selfish, it's necessary to remain calm and to be truly helpful to those around you. I can't help you if I'm dying.
